Artificial Intelligence Guidelines
Kinaa: Jurnal Kepemimpinan Kristen dan Pemberdayaan Jemaat realizes that artificial intelligence provides opportunities to assist research effectively. However, AI cannot replicate human creative and critical thinking. Therefore, we are committed to classifying AI use as assistive (still requiring disclosure), generative (requiring disclosure), and prohibited (not allowed). These guidelines will serve as a reference for authors, reviewers, and editors during the publication process regarding the use of AI tools.
AI Assistive (disclosure required)
AI tools used to refine manuscripts (grammar, writing structure) must still be disclosed. The use of AI for literature searches and sources is permitted. The use of AI for discussions with authors/editors/reviewers is permitted, but authors/editors/reviewers may not directly use information generated by GenAI. Authors must write a disclosure in the methods section.
AI Generated (disclosure required)
The use of AI and LLLs that generate references, text, and images, and that can influence the substance of the manuscript (analysis, results, conclusions), must be disclosed so that editors can evaluate the paper's content. Authors are required to cite the original source as the primary reference. GenAI is not permitted to be used as the primary source in scientific writing. However, authors are fully responsible for ensuring that manuscripts comply with Kinaa: Jurnal Kepemimpinan Kristen dan Pemberdayaan Jemaat Journal Publication Ethics and that their use does not exceed 20% (as determined by AI detection tools). Disclosure of AI tool use must be included in the methods section. The following are the permitted limitations of GenAI:
- Translation of materials as part of the research process
- Use of software or coding generated by AI to conduct additional research
- Assistance in visualizing research data
- Creation of representative illustrations or infographics
- Code that has been improved or checked for errors with the help of AI
For uses 1-5, authors must explain the AI engine and prompt in the description field.
Prohibited (Not Allowed)
The transparent use of GenAI does not automatically result in rejection by the editor. However, if the editor finds that the manuscript uses GenAI inappropriately, the editor may reject the author's submission during the publication process.
Reviewers who use GenAI to make inappropriate comments on manuscripts will be dismissed as reviewers for Kinaa: Jurnal Kepemimpinan Kristen dan Pemberdayaan Jemaat, and their review results will not be considered in the decision-making process for the manuscript.
Editors are not permitted to use AI to make decisions regarding a manuscript during the publication process. If an editor is found to have violated this rule, the journal will take action against that editor. Editors are only permitted to use AI Detector as one of the tools to detect GenAI.
Inappropriate use of GenAI includes:
- Creating incorrect text or content
- Creating data or submissions using a series of prompts without being able to show the raw data.
- Conducting interviews with GenAI tools as a substitute for participants in qualitative research
- Analysis of experiences and themes
- Plagiarism or improper attribution to previous sources
- Generated images presented as unique or new research images
- Fake references or fabricated claims: Reading texts or sources without re-investigation by the author. When citing authors, it is expected that the page number be included so that editors and reviewers can verify the accuracy.
- Use of GenAI tools for editorial work or for conducting peer review
